Mission Statement

The Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists is an open and diverse group of artists, collectors and admirers who share a love for the practice and perpetuation of botanical art and illustration with a fond focus on plants in the Rocky Mountain Region.
We encourage and participate in educational outreach, juried and non-juried exhibits, lectures, workshops and regular chapter meetings. The RMSBA is proud to be the very first chapter affiliation of the international organization, the American Society of Botanical Artists.

Holiday Party & Election. Our Holiday Party came back and we had $600 in prizes! … and great food! Thank you to Carol Till for serving as President the last two years, and to Vanessa Martin, who has been an active board member in various capacities for several years, as they back away from the fray.

At the meeting we had elections for Board of Director positions. Thank you to those who have contacted us. If you haven't heard back from us, you will soon. We still are seeking volunteers, so let us know how you can help. Please send a tiny photo of yourself to me so I can post it in the Bouquet of Directors on the Blog.

Land Use. The fires that constantly plague our urban-wildland interface are now prancing through suburban neighborhoods in winter. What about the way we use particular landscapes increases risks? How do we actually parcel out our national land uses and access?

Abundant Futures”. The traveling exhibit by ASBA will open at DBG on October 8. We ought to consider a “shadow” exhibit by RMSBA to take on their theme, if we can do that given the requirements in our regions for sustainable plant cultivation as the West gets hotter, drier, and windier. The original New York Botanic Gardens online exhibit is here, and the downloadable (.pdf) version is here. Let us know your perspectives on this as we prepare for this year’s activities.
