Before Invasion, Ukraine’s Lithium Wealth Was Drawing Global Attention, by Hiroko Tabuchi, NY Times Mar 2, 2022 [pay wall]. Chinese and Australian investors had been lining up to explore for lithium, a metal that is critical to batteries and the world’s transition to clean energy. “Ukrainian researchers have speculated that the country’s eastern region holds close to 500,000 tons of lithium oxide, a source of lithium, a mineral critical to the production of the batteries that power electric vehicles. That preliminary assessment, if it holds, would make Ukraine’s lithium reserves one of the largest in the world.”
International
Women’s Day. The Irish Examiner has posted
online 100
WOMEN OF 2022: “These [Irish] women make it their business to
disrupt our perception of what it means to be a woman in today’s world.
Change-makers, powerbrokers, bias breakers and champions of humankind, prepare
to be inspired by women in Ireland who are changing the world in 2022.” Well,
alas! None of our five or so fellow ASBA colleagues from Ireland were among
them, nor were those from 34 other nations. The Toronto Star hails 22
women among Canada’s influential sports figures; the shiftless rag
ignored the influence of our more than 50 lovely, skilled botanical artists.
